People often ask why have an MOT test? The simple answer in one word is “safety”. The MOT was originally introduced in 1960 for vehicles aged 10 years or older. Since 1967 it now covers vehicles aged 3 years or more. The individual requirements of the test have also expanded, for example emissions testing, but the main requirements cover safety. This includes steering , braking, suspension, vehicle structure and passenger safety belts.

The test is administered by VOSA (Vehicle & Operator Services Agency – part of The Department for Transport). Axe Valley Motors and it’s appointed testers have undergone both training and continuous development to be able to undertake the tests. This means that Axe Valley Motors is able to ensure the safety of your vehicle.

We can test class 4 vehicles - Cars (up to 8 passenger seats), Motor caravans, Quads, Dual Purpose Vehicles, Taxis, Private Hire vehicles and PSV (up to 8 passenger seats), Goods vehicles (up to 3000kg DGW).

Our MOT station is fully accessible for viewing, so you can be sure that we are doing your work properly and honestly. As well as the viewing area we also, have a rest room available with easy chairs and tea making facilities, which is ideal if you prefer to wait.

An important part of our philosophy is that should your car fail its MOT and requires repair work, we liaise fully with you so that no work is done without your permission.
